Okay, let’s talk about the skill of the email marketer who created this Vita Coco email. Because let’s be honest, the design is great, but the language does the heavy lifting.
Right at the tippy top of the email, Vita Coco confirms the customer has successfully subscribed. This approach works because subscribers don’t have to search for anything. If they don’t want to read any further, at least the email achieved its most basic function.
Then there’s that “YOU DID IT” banner, and the reader is like “Wwhhhhhaaaat did I do?” They’re curious. They have to read on to find out.
The following line, “The best decision you’ve ever made…” also keeps subscribers reading. It doesn’t expose anything just yet, and the clever bit of humor at the end is a nice touch. Vita Coco complimented the reader and made them chuckle a little.

Brands sometimes make the mistake of setting up welcome emails to trigger right after a subscription sign-up without segmenting out pre-existing subscribers.
So, if one of your subscribers adds a new product to their subscription, they might receive emails they’ve already seen. The trouble is that they’re then added to several different flows and receive a wild number of emails from your brand.
They start to tune you out. They miss important brand announcements, promos, discounts, and even perks.
You can get around this by setting up subscriber flows for your core products (rather than for every product) as long as there’s enough to differentiate them.
You can also opt them out of emails if the products are too similar, use dynamic content flows, and segment within the flows to ensure they’re not receiving the emails more than once.
Best time to send a welcome email to new subscribers
Welcome emails, at least the first one you send out, should be fairly immediate. The initial sign-up or the purchase of their first subscription order should be the trigger.
Any other emails you send in your welcome series should follow at a pace of one to two days after the initial email.
The only exception is the second email. If your first email is simply to confirm the subscription itself and get the subscriber to set up their account, you could send the second email right after.

If you’d like to send any subscription emails through Klaviyo instead of Stay (e.g., subscription creation confirmation, order upcoming, cancellation confirmation, etc.), you must create flows in Klaviyo.

Creating a New Flow in Klaviyo
- Open the Klaviyo app
- Navigate to Flows and click Create flow in the top right corner of the page
- Click Build your own in the top right corner
- Enter the flow name (e.g., Subscriber Winback), and click Create flow
Setting the Flow Trigger and Filters
- On the right-hand panel of the flow builder, select Your metrics > API
- All the Retextion metrics will populate. Select the metric you would like triggering the flow. The metric is the action that the customer takes to automatically trigger and send the email in the flow.
NOTE: You will see two sets of metrics, one that starts with Retextion and one that starts with Stay. Please use the metric that starts with Retextion (e.g. Retextion – Order Upcoming).
